Worldwide Asset Exchange (WAX) has announced that its blockchain-based, wrestling-themed non-fungible token (NFT) game Brawlers is now available on the major digital distribution platform Epic Games Store (EGS). This news opens up the game to a wide audience of more than 230 million PC gamers worldwide.
The Epic Games Store (EGS) is a well-known video game digital distribution service and storefront operated by Epic Games, the developer of the highly popular game Fortnite. Brawlers, a Player-vs-Player (PVP) card game, is designed for the Web3 ecosystem and has gained attention due to its collaboration with renowned mathematician, game designer, and Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield.
The Significance of Brawlers on Epic Games Store
The launch of Brawlers on the Epic Games Store marks a significant milestone in the mass adoption of Web3. Michael Rubinelli, Chief Gaming Officer at WAX, commented that this partnership with a major traditional gaming platform is a game-changing step for the industry. He stated, “It is a truly momentous next step on our journey to the mass adoption of Web3.”
Brawlers is the first game developed by WAX’s dedicated gaming studio, Tyranno Studios. Led by Michael Rubinelli, a gaming industry veteran with 25 years of experience and alumni of renowned companies like Disney, Playdom, Electronic Arts, and THQ. This game is powered by BRWL tokens and features a cast of unique NFT characters. It also offers cross-platform functionality through NFT bridges to Polygon, Ethereum, and BNB Chain.
“Like any physical card game, Brawlers enables players to buy card sets and use them to play with others, while at the same time keeping full ownership and control over their assets to trade or exchange them,” explained Richard Garfield.
Every player who downloads the game receives a complete set of “Free-to-Try” assets, allowing them to experience the game without any cost. Brawlers also introduces the concept of play-to-earn, where players can earn BRWL tokens by participating in pro-wrestling-style matches and use them to craft or purchase content and equipment for their NFT wrestlers.
WAX’s Impact in the Gaming Industry
Founded in 2017, WAX has become a prominent player in the digital collectibles space, facilitating the trade of more than 100 million digital collectibles. Major League Baseball, Capcom’s “Street Fighter,” Deadmau5, and Weezer are among the notable names that have leveraged the WAX platform.
According to dapp analysis platform DappRadar, WAX stands out as the leader in terms of the number of transactions. In the last month alone, it recorded 444.1 million transactions, surpassing other blockchain platforms like Solana. Despite a recent dip in the number of transactions and unique active wallets, the collaboration with Epic Games Store is expected to rejuvenate the game and attract new players.
It’s worth noting that the price of BRWL tokens has experienced some fluctuations recently, with a slight decrease of 7% in a day. However, the overall trend indicates a positive growth of over 62% in a month.
This latest development in the gaming industry showcases the continuous evolution of Web3 gaming and the potential it holds for the future. As more traditional gaming platforms embrace blockchain technology, the adoption of NFT games like Brawlers is expected to skyrocket.
“Brawlers’ launch on Epic Games Store is a testament to the growing interest in Web3 gaming despite the current market conditions. It highlights the potential of play-to-earn blockchain games in supplementing income,” said the CEO of WAX.
