The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has recently announced its collaboration with Ripple, a blockchain payment firm, as the official technology provider for its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiative. This strategic partnership aims to propel the development and implementation of the Digital Lari, Georgia’s CBDC, through a pilot program. Ripple was selected by the NBG due to its expertise in the sector and successful track record in previous CBDC pilot deployments, making it the ideal choice for this project.

Driving Innovation and Improving Monetary Settlements

Working together, Ripple and the Bank of Georgia will develop and execute plans to utilize Ripple’s CBDC platform, offering various use cases for public, private, wholesale, and retail customers. This collaborative effort is expected to drive innovation within the country’s financial sector. It also aims to encourage other financial institutions to participate in future CBDC pilots, ultimately leading to a new era of improved local and cross-border monetary settlements.
