Magic: The Gathering creator enters the world of blockchain gaming with “Brawlers”

Richard Garfield, the mastermind behind the immensely popular card game “Magic: The Gathering,” is now venturing into the realm of blockchain gaming. Teaming up with Tyranno Studios, Garfield has co-designed a new digital card game called “Brawlers.” Excitingly, the game is already available on the Epic Game Store, granting a vast user base the opportunity to immerse themselves in this thrilling Web3 gaming experience.

In “Brawlers,” players have the chance to purchase card sets and utilize them to compete against each other. The unique aspect of the game is that players retain complete ownership and control over their in-game assets, facilitating a seamless process of trading and exchanging digital assets. To achieve this, the game leverages the power of the WAX (WAXP) blockchain, which is a layer 1 proof-of-stake (PoS) network designed with compatibility in mind, specifically with the well-known EOS blockchain. The WAX blockchain already hosts several other blockchain-based games like Alien Worlds, Farmer’s World, and Wombat Dungeon Master, further enriching the gaming ecosystem.

“‘Brawlers’ brings a Web3 gaming experience that captures the essence of blockchain technology. It provides an avenue for developers to unleash their creativity and build player-driven economies without the hindrance of microtransactions,”

– Richard Garfield

The foray into blockchain gaming by Garfield reflects the growing interest among game developers in decentralized applications and assets. As part of its commitment to the blockchain landscape, “Brawlers” is set to feature a limited-edition collection of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and offer cross-platform functionality through NFT bridges to various blockchains such as Polygon, Ethereum, and BNB Chain. By embracing interoperability, “Brawlers” ensures that players can engage with the game regardless of their chosen blockchain ecosystem.

The decision by the Epic Game Store to host “Brawlers” is monumental, as the platform boasts a staggering 230 million users. This strategic partnership is anticipated to enhance the game’s adoption and bring blockchain gaming one step closer to the mainstream audience, signaling a pivotal moment for the industry.
