Disney has joined forces with NBA Top Shot Creator Dapper Labs to introduce a groundbreaking platform for “digital pin” NFTs. The partnership, known as Disney Pinnacle, will provide collectors with the opportunity to purchase and trade exclusive Disney NFTs featuring beloved characters from Pixar and Star Wars.
Disney Pinnacle aims to revolutionize the world of collectibles, offering a socially-driven experience that brings the nostalgia of pin collecting into the digital age. According to a joint release by Disney and Dapper Labs, the platform has been meticulously designed to incorporate all the learnings from Dapper Labs’ previous endeavors. Roham Gharegozlou, co-founder and CEO of Dapper Labs, stated, “Fans anywhere will be able to collect dynamic pins on their phone and trade instantly and securely with each other no matter where they are in the world.”
Bringing Disney Magic to the Digital Realm
The upcoming debut of Disney Pinnacle on the Apple App Store for iOS users is highly anticipated. Collectors can now sign up on the waitlist to be among the first to explore this innovative digital collectible universe.
Disney Pinnacle’s digital collectibles will evoke memories of the physical pins sold at Disney theme parks. However, these unique items will be minted as NFTs on the Flow blockchain, which is also utilized by Dapper Labs’ other prominent collectibles platforms like NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day.
“Disney Pinnacle is an all-new product designed from the ground up to incorporate everything we’ve learned over the past few years.”
– Roham Gharegozlou, co-founder and CEO of Dapper Labs
During a recent interview with Decrypt, Gharegozlou disclosed that iconic characters such as Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story, the Disney Princesses, and Darth Vader from Star Wars are among those set to be featured in Disney Pinnacle’s lineup of digital collectibles. Although Disney owns the Marvel IP, Gharegozlou clarified that Marvel would not be included “at launch.”
Optimized for Mobile Users
Unlike Dapper Labs’ previous platforms, which initially launched on the web and later introduced a mobile app, Disney Pinnacle has been designed with mobile use in mind right from the start. Gharegozlou emphasized that the platform is tailor-made for smartphones and features enhancements to optimize the user-friendly format.
“It’s an updated economy design, so it’s better balanced between the accessibility for the everyday fan as well as the limited edition and super limited edition assets for some of the higher-end collectors,” Gharegozlou explained. “And it’s access to the whole Disney universe, under one roof.”
Dapper Labs made a name for itself with the tremendous success of its NBA Top Shot collectible platform during the initial surge of the NFT market in 2021. Renowned for their Ethereum NFT project CryptoKitties, the company developed the Flow blockchain specifically to manage large-scale consumer applications, including collectibles and games.
Disney, on the other hand, has previously dabbled in the digital consumer products realm. The Hollywood studio recently collaborated with Cryptoys to release a limited-edition collection of NFT Star Wars toys earlier this year. With Disney Pinnacle, the magic of Disney collectibles enters a new era – a world where fans can discover and trade their favorite characters in the form of NFTs while embracing the modern digital landscape.
