The UK National Crime Agency’s Efforts to Combat Cryptocurrency Scams and Fraud

The United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has taken an active stance against the increasing threat of cryptocurrency scams and fraud, demonstrating its commitment to protecting crypto investors. To address the growing attempts by bad actors to deceive individuals in the crypto space, the NCA has announced its plans to establish a specialized cryptocurrency and virtual assets team dedicated to countering these illicit activities.

“The role will support existing and new investigations where specialist cryptocurrency experience is required along with taking a proactive lead in identifying targets for further development,” the NCA stated.

The NCA aims to recruit six individuals who will form the core of this new team. Positioned either within the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) or the Digital Asset Team, the team members will focus on investigating crimes related to cryptocurrencies. Their key responsibilities will include providing specialized expertise in cryptocurrency investigations, identifying potential targets for further development, conducting forensic investigations on blockchains, and analyzing relevant materials.
