Bandai Namco Suspends Gundam Metaverse Downloads Amid Leak Rumors

Rumors Surrounding Gundam Metaverse

Japanese game publisher Bandai Namco has suspended downloads of its recently launched Gundam Metaverse amid rumors of a major leak. An announcement on October 18 stated, “We are sorry that downloading the client files has been temporarily suspended. We will inform you on this website when the download will be available again. Please continue to use ‘Metaverse Easy Access’ to purchase limited edition Gunpla.”

Gundam Metaverse is a collaborative project between Bandai Namco and its fans to create and manage a community with the goal of developing future Gundam projects. The official website describes it as a 3D world of the Gundam anime, where visitors can explore and engage in activities such as purchasing limited edition Gunpla models and attending digital live performances by Gundam series-related artists.

The game was launched just this month and was scheduled to be open for a limited time in Japan and the US. The ‘Early Access’ period began on October 5 for a select number of users, followed by the ‘General Access’ period for the public on October 11.

Despite gaining popularity, Bandai Namco decided to halt the downloads without providing an explanation for their decision.

Possible Leaked Design Files

Before the official announcement, rumors started circulating that the game downloads included unencrypted design files related to specific models for the upcoming film ‘Gundam Seed Freedom’. These rumors emerged as early as mid-September when a Weibo user claimed to have shared images of the ‘Freedom Gundam’ and ‘Justice Gundam’ designs set to debut in the film.

‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom’ is an upcoming mecha animated film produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and scheduled for release on January 26, 2024. It serves as the sequel to ‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED’ (2002-2003) and ‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny’ (2004-2005).

It is alleged that some individuals were able to successfully print the leaked design files using a 3D printer and assemble them into the Gunpla models.

Bandai Namco has not yet provided an official comment regarding the alleged leak. Cryptonews has reached out to the company for further information.
