Backed by famous artists, US-based company Blackdot has introduced a groundbreaking technology that combines tattooing with blockchain-stored tattoos, allowing clients to own them as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and providing artists with future royalties. Blackdot’s mission is to create an immersive experience where art and science intersect.
The World’s First Fully Automated Tattooing Platform
Blackdot has developed the world’s first fully automated and scalable tattooing platform. This innovative technology opens up new possibilities in the art of tattooing. According to the press release, every time an artist’s design is used, they earn a royalty from it, ensuring that artists are properly compensated for their work.
Blockdot Gallery: A Hub for Digital Tattoo Art
Blockdot Gallery, launched by Blackdot, serves as a transactional hub for physically executed digital tattoo art. It offers Tradable Tattoos, which are limited edition tattoos that can be applied, traded, or gifted as one-of-a-kind, minted digital collectibles. These tattoos are designed to be unique and hold value for collectors.
“Massively popular artists are supporting Blackdot’s launch with exclusive designs.”
Blackdot has garnered support from renowned artists. The first Blackdot Certified Artist (BCA), Tyler Hobbs, offers custom tattoos through the platform. Additionally, limited edition collections from popular Turkish tattoo artist Omer Tunca and limited release art from John Craig, known for his work on The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album cover, are available.
The Power of Blackdot’s Technology
The innovative device used by Blackdot employs a small number of hidden test dots to “learn” the individual client’s skin characteristics. These dots are then compared against Blackdot’s extensive skin database to determine the best settings, including the number of punctures and puncture depth, specific to the tattoo location. The mapping and motion system used by Blackdot is patented, ensuring its uniqueness.
Expanding Reach and Investment Opportunities
Blackdot is currently open in Austin and has plans to expand to major US cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, and Miami, as well as internationally. The company has recently raised $4.5 million in funding from FusionX Ventures in May 2021, in addition to a previous undisclosed amount from FusionX Ventures and Tech Coast Angels in March 2020. Interested investors, both angel and institutional, can apply to invest in Blackdot.
