Spanish Film ‘The Quiet Maid’ Secures Global Sales Deal with FilmSharks

‘Calladita / The Quiet Maid’ – a movie financed by the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) – has secured a global sales deal, despite claims that NFTs are no longer popular. This marks a significant milestone for the film industry, as it is the first European feature film to be funded by NFT sales. The movie, directed by Miguel Faus, is a debut film and a social satire that has gained attention and recognition in various film festivals.

NFTs Revolutionizing Film Funding

The sale of NFTs has been a topic of interest and debate in recent years. NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique digital assets that can be bought, sold, and owned. While some skeptics may argue that NFTs have lost their popularity, ‘The Quiet Maid’ proves otherwise. By financing the film through the sale of NFTs, the production team has found a unique and innovative way to fund their project.

“Over the moon to announce that the World Premiere of THE QUIET MAID / CALLADITA will be at TallinnBNFF in the First Feature Official Competition,” Faus tweeted on October 6.

The world sales rights for ‘The Quiet Maid’ have been acquired by FilmSharks, an Iberoamerican company. This deal was made at Iberseries, a prestigious industry conference held in Madrid. The film has also gained recognition internationally, winning the Steven Soderbergh Foundation Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Steven Soderbergh, a renowned American filmmaker, is known for his contributions to the film industry and has lent his support to ‘The Quiet Maid’ with a generous donation of $100,000.

A Unique and Captivating Plot

‘The Quiet Maid’ follows the story of Ana, a woman from Colombia who takes up a servant job in an art collector’s luxury villa in an affluent Spanish neighborhood in Catalonia. The film explores themes of social dissonance and presents a poignant reflection of the world we live in today.

“The film caught our attention because of its different cinema flavors, including a strong cinematic director’s eye with a very accurate portrait of the social dissonance happening today that translates as a global matter,” remarked Federico Pascua, Senior Sales and Acquisitions at FilmSharks.

The production team behind ‘The Quiet Maid’ includes Calladita Films, Potenza Producciones, and Decentralized Pictures. The cast features talented individuals such as Paula Grimaldo, Ariadna Gil, Luis Bermejo, and Pol Hermoso. The film, with a duration of 90 minutes, is an expansion of Faus’ short film of the same title released in 2020. The success of the short film led to its acquisition by HBO Max for streaming.

‘The Quiet Maid’ is set to make its debut at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival on November 10. This festival attracts filmmakers and movie enthusiasts from around the world and provides a platform for new and groundbreaking films.

In addition to the film’s premiere, Faus has also announced a raffle of a Calladita NFT for those who can spot every NFT appearing in the official trailer. This adds an interactive and engaging element to the film’s promotion and showcases the integration of NFTs into the film industry.
